When a property has no cavity space to insulate, such as solid wall and hard to treat cavity, an alternative would be to insulate the walls using external wall insulation.
External wall insulation consists of a layer of insulation such as EPS Board, PUR Board, Mineral Fibre, Wood Fibre or Hemp Batts. EPS being the most common solution. The Insulation layer is mechanical fixed (Adhesive is used if required) to the existing walls which is then rendered over incorporating a mesh for added strength.
There are various finishes which then can be applied to the render, Silicone, Brick Effect, Brick Slips and Spar Dash are the most common used.
Solid walls have no gap, so they can’t be filled with cavity wall insulation.
Cavity walls are made of two layers with a gap or ‘cavity’ between them.
