What are smart thermostats?

They connect your heating (and in some cases hot water) system to the internet, letting you change the temperature or switch off on your smartphone or other device when you’re out and about (or on the sofa or in bed), or with your computer. They are different from smart meters, which most energy firms will install for you as a more efficient way to measure your energy usage. Because a smart thermostat offers you so much control, it should reduce your energy bills and help protect the environment at the same time.

What are the benefits?

  • You may be able to have a smart thermostat fitted for free as part of the UK Government’s Green Homes Grant scheme, paid for by a levy in our energy bills
  • Your energy bills may be reduced, depending on how you use your smart thermostat. Also, a smart thermostat can be used with different energy suppliers, which is worth bearing in mind if you are switching supplier to save money
  • You will be helping protect the environment and contributing to the UK’s emissions target, by improving your energy efficiency

Would it work for my home?

We have improved many different types of homes across the UK by fitting smart storage heaters with smart thermostats. Here is a short, speeded up video showing our installers in action at a typical home.

How much will I save?

As much as £975 a year or more. An independent test has shown that a heating system using a mix of Quantum smart electric heaters and direct acting convectors (such as the Dimplex Q-Rad) can offer running cost savings of up to £418 per annum when compared to a manual static storage system, and up to £975 when replacing an electric convector or radiator system on standard tariff.

(Figures based on 90m2 3-bed semi-detached house complying with 1960s’ Building Regulations. Manual storage system comprises a mix of storage heaters plus direct acting convectors.)

Can I have other energy improvements made at the same?

That would make a lot of sense, we would be delighted to help. We are skilled and approved installers of other energy improvements as well, such as solar panels, smart thermometers, internal wall insulation, room in roof insulation and loft insulation, all of which qualify for the Green Homes Grant. We are experienced in installing several improvements at once and do so with as little disruption as possible to our customers and their homes.

How much will it cost?
