The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a government programme that provides a £7,500 grant to help homeowners upgrade to modern, efficient heating. If your flat qualifies, the entire installation is covered. Nothing to pay upfront, and nothing to pay afterwards.

The system being installed is a heat pump; a central heating upgrade that produces significantly more warmth per unit of electricity than storage heaters or panel heaters. What exactly is being installed? Is it a heat pump?

 Yes. It's a heat pump, a more efficient alternative to electric storage or panel heating. The unit installed under this scheme fits entirely inside your home, so there's no outdoor box to find space for. 

 

Will it heat my flat properly, even in winter?

 Yes. Heat pumps are designed to provide consistent central heating throughout the year, including the coldest months. 

Will my electricity bill go up?

Most households see their heating costs fall rather than rise, because a heat pump produces more heat per unit of electricity than storage or panel heaters. Actual savings depend on your current heating type and usage. 

 

Where does the unit go if there's no outdoor box?

 The system installs inside the property and connects to the outside air through a small duct in an external wall, rather than needing an external condenser unit.

How long does installation take, and how disruptive is it?

 Most installations are completed in a single day. 

Is my flat likely to qualify?
