AWARD WINNING SOLAR AND HEATING INSTALLATION SPECIALISTS

Step-by-step: What to expect.

Customer greeting

When work is taking place in your home, it’s reassuring if you know what it will look like. So, if you’re having energy upgrades installed in your home, you’re probably wondering about the process.

Timeline: The retrofit process.

Your new energy upgrades might be referred to as ‘retrofit’. This is where modern energy upgrades are installed in your existing home to improve energy efficiency. This could include air source heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, windows, doors and ventilation measures.

We’ll guide you through the installation process, step-by-step, so you know exactly what to expect.

Step 1: We contact you.

You’ve probably got a lot of questions about what work is taking place, why it’s happening and who you can speak to. Before any work begins, we’ll get in touch with you to let you know what’s happening and explain:

  • Why your home has been chosen for energy upgrades, and who requested the work.

  • We’ll be arranging an assessment of your home to determine what energy upgrades you need.

  • What support will be available throughout the process, including speaking to family members or carers, and offering language support if needed.

When we first contact you about the proposed retrofit work, it gives you the opportunity to ask any questions about the project. We will always do our best to answer, or we can direct you to a suitable contact who can answer your questions better than we can.

Once we’ve been in touch, that’s when we can start working together to make the process as smooth as possible.

Step 2: Home assessment visit.

It is usually possible for you to stay in your home while the work takes place. If you are getting more than one energy upgrade, the work usually happens in stages. That way, there is not too much disruption.

While we will do everything possible to keep disruption to a minimum, there will be some disturbance in your home. You may experience the following while work takes place:

  • Noise from tools

  • Temporary access to rooms

  • Equipment and materials in or around your home

  • Short interruptions to heating or power

While we understand that these disruptions aren’t ideal, our team will always let you know in advance if any of these are likely to affect you. Our installers work Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm and will always leave your home clean and tidy at the end of each day.

Step 3: Improvements confirmed.

After the assessment, we’ll review the information on your current energy measures and usage. Our team will review the findings and confirm which improvements are right for your home.

Because every home is different, you may only need one upgrade, or you could require multiple. We will confirm what improvements will be necessary before any work begins.

Once we have a plan of the work needed and some timelines, we’ll be in touch again to share our plans. We’ll explain what upgrades will be taking place and when the installations will be completed.

Again, if you have any questions before the work begins, this is a great time to ask them.

Step 4: Installation work begins.

Once installation day arrives, it helps if you’re prepared for the work ahead. So, here’s what you can expect to happen.

1. We will confirm installation dates in advance, so you know when the work is planned to go ahead.

2. As well as giving you a start date, we will also let you know how long the work is likely to last.

3. When the work begins, installers will arrive with identification so you know who they are.

4. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption, and you will still have safe access to your home while work takes place.

5. Air source heat pumps often need a hot water cylinder, which is usually installed in a utility space.

Work is carried out safely and professionally, keeping you and your home as safe as possible during and after installation.

Step 5: Final checks and sign-off.

Once your new energy measures have been installed, they need to be safety checked and signed off. This means someone will do some final safety and quality checks to make sure they are ready for you to use.

The installation team will then show you how to use your new energy equipment and controls. We’ll show you how to get the most out of your new equipment so you can keep your home comfortable and your energy bills low.

Following the demonstration, you can ask any questions you might have about how things work and who to contact in an emergency. Once you're happy, we'll confirm the project is complete.
