Why is my home being improved?

insulation-2

Your home is being improved as part of a national energy efficiency programme. This kind of work is called a retrofit: improvements made to an existing home to make it warmer, more comfortable and cheaper to heat.

The energy improvement work has been arranged by either:

  • Housing association

  • Local authority

  • Landlord

as part of a government-funded programme.

Why has my home been chosen for retrofit upgrades?

Your home may have been chosen for one or more of the following reasons:

  • EPC rating of D or below

  • Identified as having high energy bills

  • Your home produces higher-than-average carbon emissions based on its current energy use

  • Your home has been identified as being at risk of damp or condensation, which can affect health

How this benefits you.

The energy improvement works are taking place for your benefit. Here’s how it can make your home more comfortable and cheaper:

Warmer home

Through improved insulation and heating systems, rooms heat up faster and stay warm for longer, even on the coldest days.

Better comfort

With improved energy measures, the temperature in your home will be more comfortable and stable.

Environmentally friendly homes

Your home will produce fewer carbon emissions without any extra effort on your part.

Lower energy bills

Insulation and efficient heating mean you use less energy to keep your home comfortable.

Examples of improvements you may see

Every home is different, so the energy improvements your home needs could be different from the house next door. That’s why homes are assessed individually to choose upgrades that will give you the biggest benefit.

Depending on your home's assessment, you may receive one improvement or several.

Possible upgrades may include:

  • Loft or wall insulation: Keeps heat inside your home for longer

  • Air sourced heating pumps: A modern, efficient way to heat your home using outside air

  • Solar panels: Generate free electricity from daylight

  • New windows or doors: Reduce draughts and stop heat escaping

  • Ventilation improvements: Keep air fresh and helps reduce damp

The improvements made will suit both your property and how you live in it.

Your home will be assessed before any work begins. You will be told exactly what is planned for your property.
