These upgrades are designed to lower your energy costs and improve your home’s efficiency, all at no cost for qualifying households.

 

How do you decide what upgrades I have?

Once you’ve checked your eligibility and had a chat with our team, we’ll organise a survey of your home to calculate how we can improve its energy efficiency. From this survey, you'll receive a detailed report and recommendations on what work needs to be done to secure the highest possible EPC rating.

In other words, we install the best options, (including solar, heating and insulation) to make your home warmer and cheaper to heat.

What solar upgrades could you get with ECO4?

With an ECO4 solar panel grant, you could receive a fully funded solar PV system. This includes:

  • High-efficiency solar PV panels: Installed on your roof to capture sunlight and convert it into usable electricity
  • Inverter systems: To safely convert solar energy into power for your home
  • Optional battery storage: Store any excess electricity to use later
  • Grid export capabilities: Sell unused energy back to the grid via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)

Solar upgrades often come with other improvements such as:

  • Upgraded wiring or electrical systems
  • Roof checks and reinforcements (only if needed)
  • Other energy-saving home upgrades such as insulation or heating upgrades as part of your ECO4 package

Who is eligible for the ECO4 Scheme?

Broadly speaking, there are two parts to eligibility under the ECO4 Scheme rules:

Your Home

Your property must be in need of energy efficiency upgrades. This is measured by your home's Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) and is similar to the energy ratings you might see on fridges, washing machines and other electrical appliances.

Properties with an EPC of D, E, F or G qualify for upgrades. As a rule of thumb, the lower your EPC, the more upgrades you will have access to. Older properties might not have an EPC, so we will assess your home as part of your application. If you live in England or Wales, you can check your EPC here. Scottish residents can find their EPC here.

Alongside the EPC rating, property type is important too. We're only able to support traditional housing (detached, semi-detached, terrace, bungalow, etc) and flats. 

Also, ECO4 is only open to homeowners and private tenants. If you are a council or Housing Association tenant, you'll need to contact your property manager for further information.

ECO4 was set up to support low-income and vulnerable households to reduce their energy bills and bring people out of fuel poverty. With this in mind there are three groups who we are able to support. You only need to be in one of these groups:

Means tested benefits - if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits, you are likely to be eligible:

  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Income Related Employment & Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Housing Benefit
  • Pension Credit Savings

Income - households with a total income of less than £31,000 qualify for support.

Medical - individuals who have long-term medical conditions, such as cardiovascular, immune, mobility or respiratory conditions are eligible.
